Fractured Rock Hydrogeology
Fractured rocks extend over much of the world, cropping out in shields, massifs, and the cores of major mountain ranges. They also form the basement below younger sedimentary rocks; at depth; they represent a continuous environment of extended and deep regional groundwater flow. Understanding of groundwater flow and solute transport in fractured rocks is vital for analysis of water resources, water quality and environmental protection, geotechnical and engineering projects, and geothermal energy production. Book chapters include theoretical and practical analyses using numerical modelling, geochemistry, isotopes, aquifer tests, laboratory tes…

Über den Autor
John M. (Jack) Sharp, Jr. is the Carlton Professor of Geology in Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Texas. He has a Bachelor of Geological Engineering from the University of Minnesota and MS and PhD degrees in hydrogeology from the University of Illinois. He has served as the President of the Geological Society of America (GSA) and as an officer in both the American Institute of Hydrology (AIH) and the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH). His honours include the GSA's Meinzer, AIH's Theis, IAH's Presidents', and the Association of Engineering Geologists' Publication Awards as well as Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Beta Pi. He is a Fellow of the GSA and the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung. His research covers flow in fractured and carbonate rocks, thermohaline free convection, sedimentary basin hydrogeology, subsidence and coastal land loss, groundwater management, and the effects of urbanization. His hobbies include gardening, genealogy, fishing, duck hunting, Australia, opera, UT football, and (before bad knees) handball.
