Über den Autor
Sir Theodore Andrea Cook (1867-1928) studied Classics at Wadham College, Oxford, where he won a Rowing Blue. After graduating, he stayed on in Oxford as a private tutor, teaching, among others, Ralph Pulitzer, son of the founder of the Pulitzer Prize. As a member of the council of the British Olympic Association, he played a major role in bringing the Games to London in 1908. Cook later became a sporting journalist on the Daily Telegraph before being appointed Editor-in-Chief of The Field. In this unlikely setting, he wrote a series of articles attacking German militarism, published in book form as The Mark of the Beast. He was knighted in 1916. Guy Nickalls (1866-1935) went to Eton where he rowed with great success, winning the Ladies' Plate in 1885. He continued his rowing at Magdalen College, Oxford. Nickalls won a gold medal in the 1908 Olympic Games, rowing in a Leander eight at the age of nearly forty-two. He died from injuries sustained in a car crash in 1935.
