Über den Autor
Using the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker, Washington Irving (1783-1859) published this satire at the start of a career that would produce such classics as The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. When the twenty-six-year-old lawyer published this humorous blend of history and fantasy, it immediately established his reputation as an American literary celebrity.
