Arterial Chemoreceptors

The carotid body arterial chemoreceptors constitute unique sensory receptors capable of rapidly monitoring the levels of arterial blood oxygen and carbon dioxide. Whenever necessary they initiate homeostatic reflexes aimed to correct the detected deviations.
