Buch

A thin and really rather annoying Polish novel, originally published in 1980, whose narrator indulges homosexual daydreams and fantasies while exchanging memories and debating the nature of the epicurean sensibility with his counterpart, an elderly German pursuer (and exploiter) of beautiful boys. The political dimensions of their phlegmatic rejection of conventional behavior are, here and there, suggested, but both the novel's strength (its Oide-like delicacy and robust erotic candor) and its cloying hothouse tone derive almost entirely from its steadfastly maintained amorality.
