Grounding Globalization
This volume discusses the effects of globalization on changing power relationships between transnational corporations (TNCs), and transnational capital, the state, and subnational groups. TNCs have expanded their power with the deepening of market relations, but they are not causing the state to wither away. Indeed, neoliberal changes often occur with the permission or even encouragement of powerful states. Transnational capital has weakened labour groups in order to make production more competitive, but the disadvantaged groups may mobilise to counter the power of transnational capital. THEODORE H. COHN is Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, Canada. His main areas of teaching and research are international political economy; Canada - US - Mexico relations; and global cities. He has authored three books and written many articles in his research areas.STEPHEN MCBRIDE is Professor and Chair at the Department of Political Science, Simon Fraser University. His books include Not Working: State Unemployment and Neo-Conservatism in Canada, (1992) and he is co-author of Dismantling a Nation, (1997).JOHN WISEMAN is Associate Professor in the School of Social Science and Planning, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. His most recent publication is Global Nation? Australia and the Politics of Globalisation (1998).
