Über den Autor


Robert Muchembled is Professor of History at Universite Paris XIII. He specialises in the social and cultural history of Western Europe, especially France. His publications in English include A History of the Devil from the Middle Ages to the Present (2004). William Monter is Emeritus Professor of History at North-western University. He is an internationally renowned early-modern social historian who has worked on a wide variety of subjects, including witchcraft, the Inquisition, women's history, and perceived deviance, with special reference to France, Switzerland and Spain.
