'I wouldn't marry you if you were the last man on earth!' And so Belle Reid sets in train three generations of heartbreak and sorrow, death and disaster. Geordie, her spurned suitor, sets out from Wick to make his fortune in the Klondike gold rush of 1897 - but his ticket to that fortune depends on the rival Belle has chosen over him. When the lads find gold, and rival Hughie has the Mizpah ring made to send to Belle, it's time for Geordie to make his move - and only one of them can win. Back home, faithless Belle continues to play her games, to the despair of her sister Hannah, when the man she loves is entrapped in Belle's web. As the effects of Belle's machinations play out, the story moves to a dressmaking establishment in Edinburgh, a ranch in Canada, a brothel in San Francisco, and a rich family home in Buenos Aires. But must evil win? Can there not be second chances and good outcomes for people who trust in God's care for them?
