Über den Autor
Helen Gardner (1908-86) was a tutor and fellow at St Hilda´s College, Oxford before becoming the first woman to be elected Merton professor of English language and literature in 1966. She produced important editions of John Donne´s poetry and wrote two books about the poetry of T. S. Eliot, The Art of T. S. Eliot and The Composition of the Four Quartets; and edited The Faber Book of Religious Verse. A fellow of the British Academy and the Royal Society of Literature, she was appointed CBE in 1962 and DBE in 1967 and twice won the Crawshay prize.
