Robert V. Hine is professor emeritus of history at the University of California, Irvine. His academic fields of interest include utopian communities and the cultural and intellectual history of the American West. He has authored or co-authored many books, the most recent of which is The American West: A New Interpretive History, with John Mack Faragher.
