Alice MacGowan (1858-1947) was an American novelist. She was born in Ohio and brought up in Tennessee. Her father, Colonel MacGowan, was an officer in the Army of the Cumberland, and the editor of the Chattanooga Times for more than twenty years. Influenced by the picturesque southern mountain region where she was brought up, MacGowan wrote so much and so naturally about the mountain dwellers of the Southland.
