Wanda and Winky
Wanda and Winky were two elephants who came together in 1999 and lived at the Detroit Zoo. Captured as babies, Wanda was a former circus performer and Winky had spent her life as an attraction at a variety of zoos. In 2005, the Detroit Zoo executive director voluntarily sent Wanda and Winky to live at the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) Ark 2000 Sanctuary in California. They were given their freedom because of arthritis and foot problems due to the cold living conditions in the northern state of Michigan. Über den Autor
Linda McLean was born and raised in the city of Detroit. As an educator for 39 years, she spent 15 years teaching in Detroit, and 24 years in the suburban school district of Walled Lake. She taught all of the elementary school grade levels as well as seven years in art education. The last eleven years of her teaching career were spent as the School Library Media Specialist where she became inspired to write books for children, two of which have been published. Ms. McLean enjoys travel, spending time communing with nature, kayaking, artistic endeavors, singing with community groups, reading, and writing. She has painted three Little Free Libraries for her local community. Linda is the mother of three grown children and grandmother of nine. Many hours of her time are spent enjoying the company of her loving family.
