Advances in Fire and Process Safety
Select Proceedings of HSFEA 2016
This book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on Health, Safety, Fire, Environment, and Allied Sciences (HSFEA 2016). The book highlights the latest developments in the field of science and technology aimed at improving health and safety in the workplace. The volume comprises content from leading scientists, engineers, and policy makers. The papers included in this volume look at identifying the limitations of the existing approaches and open new avenues for future research. The book also looks at the accident and work-health records, specifically in Asian countries, and discusses measures to improve the Asian standards a…

Über den Autor
Dr. N. A. Siddiqui is a currently Professor at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) (2005 -present). He has a Masters degree in Environmental Sciences from Lucknow University, India (1996) and a PhD in Environmental Biology from APS University, Rewa, India. Additionally he has a number of professional certification viz NEBOSH diploma, NEBOSH-IGC, IOSH Managing Safely, Lead Auditor OHSAS 18001, Lead Auditor ISO 14001 and GRAD-IOSH. Prof Siddiqui's research interest includes occupational health, safety and environment. He has co-authored more than 100 papers and 8 books. He has supervised 17 PhD and 200 MTech theses. He has organized a number of national and international seminars/conference/MDPs. He has also worked on a number of major R&D projects.Dr. S. M. Tauseef is an Assistant Professor (SG) and Head of the Environmental Research Institute at the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), India (2015-present). He has an MS in Chemical Engineering (Process Design) from Sharif University of Technology, Iran (2008) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Pondicherry University (PU) (2011). Prior to joining the UPES he worked as a Pool Officer (CSIR, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) at PU (2012-2015). Dr. Tauseef's research interests include process safety, especially forecasting and consequence assessment of accidents in chemical process industries. He has developed methodologies for application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to dense gas dispersion, vapor cloud explosions, single and multiple pool fires. His other interest has been in solid waste management, especially the design of continuously operable vermin-reactor systems for assorted wastes, and high rate anaerobic digesters. So far, he has published 25 journal articles, co-authored 3 books, filed 3 patents and presented papers in 21 conferences.Prof. S. A. Abbasi is Professor Emeritus (UGC) and Founder Head of the Centre for Pollution Control & Environmental Engineering, Pondicherry University, India. His main calling has been environmental engineering since 1970?a field to which he has contributed 42 books, 9 patents, and over 400 research papers. In 1992 Prof. Abbasi started the, now globally recognized, process safety research programme at Pondicherry University. Prof. Abbasi's lifetime achievements have been recognized in the form of several National and International awards. He has been elected Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (1993), Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (1999), and National Academy of Sciences (2003). From 1984 onwards he has been invited frequently to chair technical sessions or present plenary lectures in international conferences round the globe.Dr. Ali S. Rangwala is Associate Professor in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Worcester, USA (2006-present). He has a BS in Electrical Engineering, from the Government College of Engineering, Pune, India (2000), an MS in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park (2002), and a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (2006). Professor Rangwala's research interests include deflagration of combustible dust clouds, ignition behavior of combustible dust layers, in-situ burning of oil, spread of an oil slick in channels, velocity measuring techniques in fire induced flows, and flame propagation and burning rate behavior of condensed fuel surfaces. In the last ten years, he has published over 30 journal articles and has presented in over 30 conferences. He teaches three graduate courses: Explosion Protection, Industrial Fire Protection, and Combustion at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Department of Fire Protection Engineering.
