Mr. Jungers, the author of 25 books on Christianity, follows his previous books on The Gospel of Mark, and The Gospel of Matthew with this one on The Gospel of Luke'. Kata Loukan has been called the most beautiful book ever written on Christianity. It certainly was written in the best Greek compared to the other Gospels. Its accolades rest also in part on its stirring hymns, its memorable parables, its contrasting characters, and a marvelous portrait of Jesus the Christ. Just who wrote this third Gospel has been called into question by modern scholarship. From the late second century on, it was thought that the author was Luke, the companion to Paul, a Gentile and a physician, an expert in the way. Whoever the author was (the debate among scholars is not yet settled) his purpose in writing the Gospel is stated clearly in the opening paragraph: Since many have undertaken to set down an orderly account Of the events that have been fulfilled among us, Just as they were handed on to us by those Who from the beginning were eye-witnesses of the word, I too decided, after investigating everything carefully From the very first, to write an orderly account for you, Most excellent Theophilus, So that you may know the truth Concerning the things about which You have been instructed. (Lk 1:1)
