The Elder's People
Harriet Prescott Spofford was born in Calais, Maine in 1849, she was a keen writer and poet from an early age but it wasn't until her parents fell ill that she turned to writing as a career, contributing to story papers in nearby Boston. Spofford quickly became a regular in the papers and journals along the east coast. Here is one of the last collections of short stories published during her lifetime.
