DR. MELVYN SMITH has worked in industry for several years on the R&D product inspection equipment, low-- and high--volume flexible component manufacturing, and automated adaptive product assembly systems. Currently, he is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of the West of England, Bristol, UK.
