Mel Young is the author of Where They Lie, and Last Order of the Lost Cause both from University Press of America. He is the firstborn grandson of immigrants and a 1952 graduate of West Point. He has contributed articles and book reviews to various Jewish studies and Civil War magazines, newspapers, and journals.
