The Fugitive writers became profoundly concerned with the materialism of American life and its effect on the South. The group became known as Agrarians. Donald Davidson (1893-1968) was an English professor at Vanderbilt until his retirement in 1964. As a critic, poet, and essayist he was a leader in the Agrarian movement and an integral contributor to I'll Take My Stand.
