King Delta Records was the only race record label owned entirely by Negro business men and women. The label was started by Mortimer Sampson, owner of Sampson's Barbershop, and the recording studio was located in the back room of the barbershop. Bluesmen from all around the Mississippi Delta, from up in Robinsonville and all the way down Highway 61 to Vicksburg, came to record their Blues at King Delta Records. The record label recorded only a bucketful of Blues from a handful of Bluesmen during their existence. All of the wax recordings and the aluminum masters have been lost to mankind. The only record of the entire King Delta Records catalogue was a journal kept by Murial Hynes of the lyrics to all of the recordings made it that small backroom. This lone journal was kept under the floorboards of the Sampson Barbershop until Robert Dwight Brown came to Coahoma County in the early part of the 21st Century to interview people concerning Satan's Preacher Man. What he found was far more than he bargained for.
