John W. (Jack) Miller is President of Central Connecticut State University, USA. His work has been funded by state, federal, and private agencies, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Education, Bell South Foundation, and the Foundation for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education. He conducts a widely disseminated annual study of America's Most Literate Cities.Michael C. McKenna is Thomas G. Jewell Professor of Reading at the University of Virginia, USA. His research has been sponsored by the National Reading Research Center (NRRC) and the Center for the Improvement of Early Reading Achievement (CIERA). He is the co-winner of the Edward Fry Book Award and the American Library Association's Award for Outstanding Academic Books.
