Andreas Nolte studied German at the University of Vermont (USA) und received his Ph.D. from the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). Dennis F. Mahoney is an emeritus professor of German at the University of Vermont (USA) and the first non-German president of the International Novalis Society.
