This is the first collection of Brian Herbert's short fiction, a volume that is packed with highly imaginative, intriguing stories and ideas. In the previously unpublished Death of the Internet,: Under Burning Skies, the internet is wiped out-forever!-leaving hundreds of millions of people unable to function without a technology that they have become addicted to, and totally dependent upon. Another previously unpublished story, Earth Games describes an alien world where Earth people are kept prisoner and forced to perform competitions with hotrod automobiles. Those games strongly resemble rush-hour commute experiences in major U.S. cities, where drivers compete for lane space and make rude hand gestures to one another. A slight difference: the cars in this story have machine guns on the fenders, and cannons on the rooftops! Two of the stories in this collection-Earth Games and The Stakeout-were edited by Brian's father Frank Herbert, the famed author of DUNE, in the early 1980s, and rewritten by Brian, with those expert comments in mind.A New York Times-bestselling author, Brian has written many works of fiction and non-fiction. Brian is best known as the coauthor of 14 new Dune-series novels, written with Kevin J. Anderson. In his solo books, Brian is known for addressing important social issues, such as the environment, politics, and religion. In his highly original novel OCEAN, the ocean and its sea creatures declare war on human civilization, in retaliation for pollution and other human-caused abuses that are fouling the waters of the planet. In DANGEROUS WORLDS, the characters find themselves in an ocean of deep, deep trouble, and must try to get out of seemingly impossible situations. Sometimes they do, and sometimes they don't!

Über den Autor
Brian Herbert, the son of legendary science fiction author Frank Herbert, has written the definitive biography of him, Dreamer of Dune, which was a finalist for the Hugo Award. The book reveals the fascinating origins of Dune, and tells the compelling story of Brian's journey to understand the most complex father imaginable, a man he didn't always get along with. It is also the love story of Frank and Beverly Herbert, who met as young writers in a creative writing class at the University of Washington. After her diagnosis with a terminal illness when she was only 47, Frank Herbert took loving and heroic measures to save her life-and at that time, when Brian was in his twenties, he and his father became the best of friends. A new audio edition of Dreamer of Dune is coming out in October, 2020, narrated by the well-known audio personality, Scott Brick.A very busy man, Brian wears several hats. In addition to being the author of more than 45 books, he co-manages the legacy of Frank Herbert and is an executive producer of the new motion picture Dune and the forthcoming TV series Dune: The Sisterhood. He observed the filming of Dune in Budapest, has provided script advice to the studio, has been closely involved in publicity for the film, and is providing technical advice on new Dune games. Brian has written many highly imaginative science fiction and fantasy novels, including the epic, galaxy-spanning Timeweb trilogy, the ecological fantasy Ocean (with his wife, Jan), The Little Green Book of Chairman Rahma, The Unborn, and The Assassination of Billy Jeeling. His earlier acclaimed novels include The Stolen Gospels, Sudanna Sudanna, and Sidney's Comet, as well as Man of Two Worlds (written with his father). Brian has collaborated on many international bestselling novels in the Dune series with Kevin J. Anderson, and they also wrote the Hellhole trilogy together. Their newest novel, Dune: The Duke of Caladan, is being published in October, 2020. They are also collaborating on a new graphic novel adaptation of Dune and a comic book adaptation of their breakthrough 1999 novel Dune: House Atreides. Brian and his wife of more than 50 years, Jan, have traveled the world, living in exotic lands and learning about many cultures and languages. The huge amount of material assembled on those long, fascinating trips finds its way into Brian's writings and Jan's photography and artwork.
