Advances in Precision Instrumentation and Measurement

The 3rd International Conference on Precision Instrumentation and Measurement (CPIM 2011) was held in Xiangtan City, China. It served as an excellent opportunity for experts to strengthen academic exchanges and to enhance the development of precision instrumentation and measurement. Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).The 129 peer-reviewed papers reveal not only novel ideas and results, and work-in-progress, but will also stimulate future research activities in the area of precision instrumentation and measurement.Peer-reviewed papers from a July 2011 conference are presented here, in sections on precision measurement, optical measurement and image processing, numerical simulation and signal analysis, precision metrology and calibration, measurement and analysis for material and machining processing, and measurement for medicine, security, and geography. Papers address topics such as a person-localization system using a privacy-preserving sensor, design of a resonator for a microwave moisture instrument, a micro-force generated mechanism for sensor calibration, and development of a novel two-axis force sensor for a Chinese massage robot. Some other subjects explored include a polygon-division method for measuring wound areas, precision displacement measurement of SLR digital cameras, and measurement of mass attenuation coefficients of blue sapphire at different photon energies.
