Counseling Today

A unique new entrant into the counseling market, Counseling Today: Foundations of Professional speaks to the current generation of counseling students in ways they learn best—by using effective pedagogical aids, by presenting real life scenarios, and by tying content to MyHelpingLab, a powerful online resource.   The authors have done a fantastic job of presenting information relative to today’s practice of counseling and have updated information on aspects of the field related to the practice of professional counseling in the 21st century. Based on what I have seen, there really are no areas of the book that would detract me from adopting it.    Jeremy Linton (Indiana University, South Bend)   Within every chapter, student will find innovative features:  Fast Facts. These factoids help students immerse themselves in the world of counseling. The authors provide frequent facts to help students continuously contextualize what they are learning in the main body of the text.  Words of Wisdom. Like Fast Facts, these items are scattered throughout the chapters to offer students helpful information that they will take away with them long after their course is complete. Spotlights OnMore in-depth than the Fast Facts and Words of Wisdom, this feature focuses on particular issues or people in the field of counseling.   Counseling ControversyHere the authors highlight areas of current discussion in the profession such as “Should counselors engage in diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders?”   Snapshots  Here students will read about real counselors in relation to the topic of the chapter.
