WILFRED OWEN (1893-1918) was killed in action a week before the signing of the armistice. Only a handful of his verses were published in his lifetime. In spite of this, Owen more than any other writer has shaped modern ideas about the Great War. &quote;Dulce Et Decorum Est&quote;, &quote;Strange Meeting&quote; and &quote;Anthem for Doomed Youth&quote; have saddened and thrilled generations since. This is largely thanks to his friend Siegfried Sassoon, who brought out an edition of the war poems in 1920. Edmund Blunden edited a more complete collection in 1931 and C.
