Carlow, via Toulouse in 1159; none the less, England in the eleventh and twelfth centuries remains central. Familiar subjects such as English castle keeps, the Bayeux Tapestry and the New Forest are shown in unfamiliar light. Other papers consider contemporary views of Henry I and Stephen and modern views of Anglo-Saxon slavery.
