Blood and Sand
Ibanez (1867-1928) was a journalist, politician and best-selling Spanish novelist in various genres whose lasting fame in the English-speaking world is based on the Hollywood films adpated from his works. This novel first published in the original Spanish as Sangre y Arena in 1909 tells the story of a matador caught up in a love triangle and has been filmed several times, most notably the 1922 silent version starring Rodolph Valentino. Reprinted from the English translation of 1919 which includes an introductory biographical memoir, explanatory footnotes and a short glossary of bullfighting terms.
