The Finer Grain
Buch
Tasper Britt arose in the gray dawn, as usual. Some fishermen, seeking bait, stay up late and jack angleworms with a bull's-eye light. The big worms are abroad on the soil under cover of the darkness. Other fishermen get up early and dig while the dew is holding the smaller worms near the surface of the ground; in going after worms the shrewd operator makes the job easy for himself. Tasper Britt-Twelve-per-cent Britt-trimmed his slumber at both ends-was owl and early bird, both, in his pursuit of the pence of the people, and got 'em coming and going. He was the money boss for the town of Egypt, and those who did not give him his per cent nickname called him Phay-ray-oh-but behind his back, of course. To his face his debt slaves bespoke his favor obsequiously.

Über den Autor
Henry James (1843 - 1916) was an American-born British writer. He is regarded as one of the key figures of 19th-century literary realism. He was the son of Henry James, Sr. and the brother of philosopher and psychologist William James and diarist Alice James. He is best known for a number of novels showing Americans encountering Europe and Europeans. His method of writing from a character's point of view allowed him to explore issues related to consciousness and perception, and his style in later works has been compared to impressionist painting. His imaginative use of point of view, interior monologue and unreliable narrators brought a new depth to narrative fiction.
