The Electronic Device Description is a technology to integrate fielddevices of different vendors into different plants. It is a descriptivetechnology. Hence EDDs are not executable but very portable betweenplatforms and different EDD applications. The technology defines alanguage called EDDL, This language is meanwhile standardised in IEC61804-3. The language is used in order to describe the automationrelated properties and functions of field devices by means of highsophisticated user interfaces.
