Groundwater Modeling and Management under Uncertainty
Proceedings of the Sixth IAHR International Groundwater Symposium, Kuwait, 19 - 21 November, 2012
Groundwater is a vital resource of water, in some regions of the world the only source of fresh water. Its use for domestic use and agriculture dates back thousands of years. In recent decades the over-exploitation and unabated use of this resource has lead to severe environmental problems such as resource depletion, land subsidence and groundwater contamination. To mitigate these adverse impacts and protect this valuable resource, it is imperative that rational groundwater management practices and policies as well as robust modeling and analysis tools be developed. This volume and the accompanying USB memory card include the abstracts and fu…

Dr. Khaled Hadi is the Manager of the Hydrology Department in the Water Resources Division since March 2008. He obtained his PhD in Groundwater Geochemistry from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK in 1997. Dr. Hadi is specialized in groundwater geochemistry. He joined KISR in 1987 as a Research Associate. He has led several contract projects and is responsible for water resources project at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), respectively. He published more than 20 articles in refereed journals and 30 in international conferences. He also participated in publishing 35 reports including final, progress and interim reports either as main author or co-author in governmental contract projects.Prof. Nadim Copty is a professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. He received his doctoral degree in 1995 from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Subsequently, he worked for 5 years as a senior hydrogeologist at Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco, USA. His research interests include stochastic modelling of groundwater flow and contaminant transport, characterization of heterogeneous subsurface formations, and groundwater remediation. He is the co-author of more than 40 refereed international journal articles and conference proceedings.
