Designed and built in only 15 months, the restructuring of the former Arsenale at La Maddalena in Sardinia, was initiated with the purpose of hosting the 2009 G8 Summit, the scope of work included reclaiming and rebuilding an abandoned and contaminated site of 155 thousand square meters. The convention centre is composed series of business and recreational buildings that transformed the area into one of the major nautical hubs of the western Mediterranean. Based in Milan, Stefano Boeri Architetti is committed to the research and practice of contemporary architecture and urbanism. Recently completed projects include the recovery of the Ex Arsenale in La Maddalena, the new Corriere della Sera Headquarters. Projects currently under way include the design for a multifunctional building for the PACA Region on the Marseilles Waterfront (Centre Régional de la Méditerranée) scheduled for inauguration for 2013 .
