Through her playful and imaginative stories, Christell A Chapin, has written and illustrated many children's books, all of which are designed to empower and encourage children everywhere to feel loved, valued and appreciated. The inspiration for her stories, came from her own life experiences. She said she grew up in a family of imaginative and creative storytellers, where bedtime was always a magical journey woven by words that would provide an essential escape for her when she was younger.Christell was born in Northern California's bay-area in the sixties, then moved to a small farm in the quiet countryside of Sonoma County. While elements of her childhood were idyllic and joyful, other parts she describes as, filled with loneliness, and struggles, which according to Christell, is how her desire to write began, I wanted to help kids like me, who were having a hard time. Her problems really began after the family had moved to a beautiful, but isolating property in a very small town. She recalls that she was painfully shy, sensitive and had a difficult time making friends. No matter how hard I tried, I just didn't fit in. It didn't take long for her to realize that the bullies wouldn't follow her into the school library at recess, so that's where she spent most of her time. She remembers searching the library, for a book, any book, which would offer some advice regarding dealing with bullies, but to her surprise, nothing existed at the time. She said she remembers saying to herself that when she grew up, she would write a book to help kids like herself.While she had long desired to write children's stories, she said she never really believed she had the abilities necessary to achieve her goal, until she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in 2017. In her Author's Blog, she describes in detail what events actually prompted her to begin writing and how she taught herself to paint while undergoing treatments of chemotherapy. That is when she wrote and illustrated her first book, DOCTOR, AM I BETTER YET?, which is an inspiring story about a child who finds strength in her family and her faith while undergoing treatments to cure her cancer. It promotes a positive attitude and encourages faith and comfort, especially when life becomes difficult.She incorporated the lessons learned when she was bullied as a child into, PEPE'S JOURNEY. It was written to help others who find themselves being the subject of ridicule, simply because they are different. It encourages the reader to see themselves as worthy and valuable, regardless of the way they may look, or where they came from, how they dress, etc. and helps to build a child's self-esteem by looking within themselves for strength and courage. It also teaches them to view themselves as well as others with kindness and respect.Each of her stories has its own special message which is conveyed through a rhythm of dialogue, creating genuine and authentic poetry. All of her books are filled with whimsical and imaginative illustrations that are sure to delight children everywhere for generations.
