Verlyn Flieger is professor of English at the University of Maryland at College Park. She is the author of the expanded and updated edition of Splintered Light: Logos and Language in Tolkien's World (Kent State University Press, 2002), A Question of Time: J. R. R. Tolkien's Road to Faerie (Kent State University Press, 1997), and coeditor of Tolkien's Legendarium: Essays on the History of Middle-earth.
