Uyghur Migration From Xinjiang : 1949-1990
The Uyghurs are the Turkic Muslim ethnic minority living primarily in the Xinjiang, China. After the establishment of PRC in 1949, the process of migration of Uyghurs from Xinjiang started considerably, as the Uyghurs believed that they might not get a proper treatment under the communist leadership. Uyghurs initially migrated to neighboring countries such as Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Then Turkey provided them shelter on the basis of their ethno-cultural similarities.
