Performance evaluation and emissions characteristics of DMC-diesel blends in CI Engine
The present study demonstrates that a diesel engine can be operated with blends of DMC in diesel fuel with minimal engine changes. In this study pure diesel fuel was used as a base fuel for DMC-diesel blends. The blends containing 5, 10, 15, and 20 per cent DMC fuel by volume is used on a test rig developed for the experimentation. All tests were steady state and were set at constant engine speed 1500 RPM. With the addition of oxygen in the fuel, it has been observed that small CO reductions occur over the engine operation and there is drastic reduction in smoke emission, other exhaust gases were also reduced up to some extent.
