Today bio-diesel is the term applied to the esters of simple alkyl fatty acids used as an alternative to petroleum-based diesel fuels. Importance of biodiesel in the recent context increases due to increasing petroleum prices; limited fossil fuel reserves and environmental benefits. Due to these factors, and due to its easy biodegradability, the production of biodiesel is considered an advantage over that of fossil fuels. Dr. Kiran Patil has completed a Ph.D. (Chemical Engg.) from the University of Pune. Currently he is working as Professor and Head, School of Chemical, Petroleum, Polymer Engg. Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT-WPU, Pune. His research areas are reactive separations, process modeling, and simulation. He has a total of 25 years of teaching experience.
