This Tide Waits
A swampy wilderness awaited two familes near the big lake in South Florida. Their lives came together, carving a livelihood on its shores, and in these pages you can relive the kindness, brutality, and swamp-clearing adventures involving steamboats, huge tractors, secret places, catfishing, and undying devotion to a land-muckland-whose soil would grow winter vegetables and sugarcane crops to feed a world far beyond those wetlands near Lake Okeechobee.

Über den Autor
Carl T. Cone is a law professor and writer in Statesboro, Georgia and has been a practicing attorney, a prosecutor, and a college professor for 30 years. This Tide Waits is Cone's first fiction work, and involves two families whose lives intersected and witnessed the pioneers of a land-clearing, swamp-draining wetland. They saw the area evolve from cat-fishing, colorful Seminole Indians, steamboat trade on Lake Okeechobee, and the winter vegetables grown year-round, to the Cuban immigrants from the early 1960's and the sugarcane grown in South Florida. Cone weaves the scuba diving visits to Key Largo of a contemporary family with those from two generations before, beginning in the early 1920's. This riveting and informational account will introduce the reader to the pioneers of South Florida near Lake Okeechobee, that is completely alien from the Florida thought of today. pioneers
