The Prince is a 16th-century political treatise by the Italian diplomat and political theorist Niccolò Machiavelli. From his correspondence, a version appears to have been distributed in 1513, using a Latin title, De Principatibus (Of Principalities).However, the printed version was not published until 1532, five years after Machiavelli's death. Author Bio NICCOLÒ MACHIAVELLI (1469-527) was an Italian political philosopher, diplomat, statesman and writer. Often called the father of modern political philosophy, he was a senior official in the Florentine Republic, responsible for military and diplomatic affairs. His only book that was printed during Machiavelli's lifetime was The Art of War (1521), about military science. He also wrote the Discourses on Livy (1531) on how a republic should be started and structured. His most famous work was The Prince (1513), a guide on how to gain and maintain political power.
