Über den Autor
In 1863, Dean Burgon was presented by the College, that is the Provost and Fellows of Oriel College, the Patrons of the Vicarage of St. Mary the Virgin's, to St. Mary's, and prsume in due time that the other formalities wll be got through. He was preceded in the Vicarage by men such as John Wesley, Charles P. Eden, etc.; but he said, All at present is heavy, strange, lonely, and discouraging. In the office, he restarted services, appointed important officers, and finished his work on The Pastoral Office. He had studied a country Parish for 25 years. Eventually, Dean Burgon would become the Dean of Chichester in England and from that sacred pulpit defend the Bible against the onslaught of corrupters such as Westcott and Hort. His work has been venerated by the research conducted over the years. His writings are a treasure to the church.
