DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN (1927-2003), had an influential career as a liberal Democratic politician, diplomat, and sociologist. He served as Assistant Secretary of Labor under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson; he was an adviser to the Republican President Nixon and Ambassador to India and to the United Nations. He ended his career as Senator of New York (1977-2001). Students of sociology, politicians, journalists, and anyone interested in the history of US race relations will find this vital background reading.
