Über den Autor
Dr Karl Mackie CBE is one of the first and most influential commercial mediators in the UK and Europe. In the course of his career he has mediated and facilitated over a thousand high value disputes and some of the most complex civil and commercial cases to go through the English legal system. He is also responsible for training many other leading mediators.Karl began his working life as a business psychologist, before working for many years in university continuing education as a negotiation and business strategy consultant. During this time, he qualified as a barrister specialising in dispute resolution and employment law. He became the first and only CEO of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) in 1990, helping to create its international standing.Karl is probably the best known commercial mediator in the UK and is frequently interviewed on television and radio about disputes in the public domain. He has edited or authored several texts on mediation; most notably International Mediation - the Art of Business Diplomacy, a guide to the effective resolution of international business disputes, which he co-authored with Eileen Carroll. It has been described as '? a landmark guide to practitioners in international mediation and is likely to form a reference guide to mediation procedures.' In 2010 Karl became the only mediator ever to be given an honour by the state, Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), for services to mediation, both developing and delivering it.Tony Allen is a former long-standing Director of CEDR and a CEDR Solve mediator. He became a CEDR accredited mediator in 1996 and joined the CEDR Training Faculty a year later, initially dealing with training lawyers in representing clients at mediation and is now a lead member on CEDR's Mediator Skills Training Course.Tony has mediated a wide range of disputes involving personal injury and clinical negligence, public law, banking, construction, housing, partnership and professional indemnity, as well as general commercial claims. His work includes timelimited mediations through the Central London County Court scheme, and he has been involved in a number of major multiparty mediations including the Kenyan tribespeoples' claims against the Ministry of Defence and the Alder Hey retained organs mediations.Bill Marsh is an international mediator, and adviser and trainer in mediation and conflict issues. Formerly a commercial solicitor, he is now one of Europe's most experienced independent commercial mediators, practising out of the leading mediation chambers Independent Mediators. He has served as adviser on mediation/conflict resolution to the governments of the UK, Russia, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria, as well as the World Bank, United Nations and European Commission, all through the consulting firm Conflict Management International which he founded. He also trains mediators, facilitates complex public dialogue particularly on religious and ethnic conflicts, and is a peace envoy for the Archbishop of Canterbury. He writes widely on mediation and is a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators.
