The works of Dutch painter Steven Aalders combine contemporary approaches with historical principles of painting. His strictly geometric paintings of color planes refer to 20th century abstraction and bring ideas from Constructivism or De Stijl as well as Minimal Art and color field painting into the present. At the same time, Aalders's works also refer to classical pictorial traditions. Supra-temporal themes of time and place, proportion and color form the guiding ideas of his series of paintings.
