Rambling Boy
Buch
Michael Gibbons had the common touch, as they say, the love of others and the ability to express this love in the way he moved, talked and wrote poems. He discovered poetry later in life but it had always been inside him like an orbit of energy that wanted to come out, and finally did. When that happened, he wrote as if it were as natural as breathing. He breathes deep in this book of poems that was written in spurts shortly before his passing. He seemed to know that he was a poet of praise seeking to re-unite himself with the vibrancy of mother nature. Many of his best poems seem like songs and he titled the book Rambling Boy partly because of this, but also because he was, in fact, a rambling boy, who went round and about the world seeing and praising the simple, elemental beauties that others, maybe in too much of a hurry, missed. Now he is the one missed, but thankfully we have his poems.

Über den Autor
Michael Edward Gibbons, was born in Salem, MA and grew up in Peabody, MA. He attended the University of Massachusetts in Boston before going to work for the New England Telephone Company. His career as Lead Field Service Engineer in the semiconductor industry began in Gloucester, MA. It led to extensive travel throughout the United States, Germany and South Africa. Michael continued his career in the semiconductor industry in New York. While living in Garrison, NY, he was appointed Chairman of the Philipstown Greenway, County Representative of the NY State Greenway and a member of the Philipstown Planning Board. He was elected President of the Garrison Fish & Game Club and became a member of the Board of Directors for the Cold Spring, NY Chamber of Commerce. Michael and his wife, author Marta Elva, left New York to retire in Matlacha on Florida's west coast. Once in Florida, Michael joined the Greater Pine Island Elks and worked with the Roy Hobbs World Series organization. He was elected President of the Matlacha-Civic Association and served one year before his illness forced him to resign. Once his health improved he served on the board of Directors for the Greater Pine Island Chamber of Commerce. Michael enjoyed serving his community and meeting new people. His favorite pastimes were golfing, fishing and dancing with Marta whenever possible. Toward the end of his life, Michael discovered a hidden skill for writing; documenting life experiences with a poetic flair when chemo kept him up all night. Michael is survived by his wife Marta who helped raise two children, Jesse Daniel Gibbons and Jennifer Michael Gibbons of Gloucester, MA; and one grandson, Ethan Kevin Gibbons.
