The parrot family is one of the most intelligent, colourful and easily recognisable of the large bird families. They are also one of the most endangered, due to habitat loss; introduction of exotic species and diseases; persecution; hunting and the pet trade. In South America parrots are regularly recorded consuming soil. Über den Autor
Alan Lee spent 7 years in Peru exploring and documenting the marvels of parrot claylicks. During this time he spent hundreds of hours watching parrots at claylicks and walked hundreds of kilometres through rainforest counting birds and recording information on diets and behavior. He now works for the Percy FitzPatrick Institute, South Africa.
