Ocimum basilicum Linn, belonging to the Family Lamiaceae, is a species of great economic value, standing out for its medicinal use, being also used for the production of essential oils (EOs) and in the food industry. This study aimed to evaluate the chemical profile, total phenolics, antioxidant activity, toxicity and larvicidal activity of EO extracted from the leaves of O. basilicum L. Methyl chavicol and linalool were quantified as the major components in the EO obtained and biological properties were attributed to them. The EO was considered nontoxic by the criterion adopted.
