In a single crystal, the molecular properties would conform to the symmetry of the molecule. If there are inter molecular contributions there is no reason to stipulate such external contributions should reflect the molecular symmetry characteristics. For inter molecular contributions the purview could be the entire bulk of the specimen in general. Proton shielding tensor determinations did reveal inter molecular susceptibility contributions , and this lead to the consideration of entire bulk susceptibility shape factors.
