In a detention centre in Dover, exiled Chinese musician Jian is awaiting an unknown fate. In the lively streets of East London, translator Iona begins to decipher some ink-smudged letters and diary entries. They belong to Jian and his girlfriend Mu, writing from small-town America. I AM CHINA is a love story of modern times and a vibrant, wise and very funny portrayal of multicultural society.
