Samuel Rutherford's (1600-1661) scholastic theology has been criticized as overly deterministic and even fatalistic, a charge common to Reformed Orthodox theologians of the era. This project applies the new scholarship on Reformed Orthodoxy to Rutherford's doctrine of divine providence. Rev. Dr. Robert C. Sturdy serves as the Anglican Chaplain to St. Alban's Chapel, a ministry for college students in Charleston, South Carolina. He is an affiliated researcher in the Department of Historical Theology at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Leuven, Belgium. He is also an assistant professor of theology at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
