Desmoid tumors are benign but locally aggressive tumors of mesenchymal origin which are poorly circumscribed, infiltrate the surrounding tissue, lack a true capsule and are composed of abundant collagen. Despite their aggressive local infiltration, desmoid tumors lack a metastatic potential.
