Dr Gish has made key contributions to hepatitis research and treatment; he was a major early contributor to the decipherment of methods for the detection of hepatitis B and C virus and characterizing its epidemiology and clinical presentation in humans. He was involved in studies that led to the genotypic classification strategies and methods now in use worldwide. As of Sept 26th, Dr Gish has joined, part-time, Dr Richard Manch in Phoenix Arizona at St Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center to help start a liver transplant program at that facility and to help expand their Liver Disease Center to enhance research and education.
